Obedience

As we enter concert week, let’s start to put into action the things that God has called us to do. As I’ve mentioned before, In addition to the promises in His written Word, God has made all of us personal promises as well. We talked about how unforgiveness may be holding up some of those promises. We also discussed the power of fasting, and how we can use it as a tool for God to show us beautiful things.
This week, we want to hone in on obedience. Did you realize that obedience in “small” things results in God being able to trust us with the “big” things?
His lord said unto him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. Thou hast been faithful over a few things; I will make thee ruler over many things. Enter thou into the joy of thy lord.’ Matthew 25:23
As we are fasting this week, ask God to make it very plain to you, what He wants you to do. Obedience in our general everyday lives is pleasing to God, and shows Him that we will be obedient as we take on more and more. I recall in college, God giving me a Word to share with someone. I was nervous, and in all honesty, I didn’t want to do it. I shared that Word, out of obedience, and they responded that it did not resonate with them. I went back to God, confused because I know when I hear from Him, and when He leads me to share. Since then, He has continued to give me Words to share with others, which always resonates. I did not stop being obedient, just because I felt embarrassed by the fact that they thought I was “wrong”. There could have been several things that impacted that situation, perhaps they were convicted by the Word, and did not want me to know. Perhaps, God was using it as preparation, to see how I would respond. No matter what the case, I did not let that instance impact my willingness to obey when God tells me to share something with others. Since then, my gift has grown, and I walk in it with confidence. This is a result of my initial obedience.
There have, however, been times where I was disobedient to God’s leading, in other areas of my life. For example, God told me that before I could record an album, that I needed to write a book. This was something that I had zero interest in doing, so I procrastinated heavily. Everything I tried to do musically, didn’t work. It was tedious trying to accomplish anything. On a plane ride one day, I remembered what God said, and I committed to finishing the entire book. After that, things opened up immediately and I was able to start recording my first album. There are things that we want, and things that God wants for us, but sometimes we cannot access those things because of disobedience in areas of our life. What an honor it is to hear from God, how dare we make the choice not to follow through when we hear from Him? It’s not easy, BUT the amazing thing is that we can ask The Holy Spirit to give us the grace to be obedient to all things, great and small! In doing this, I am confident that God will open doors, open windows, and pour out His blessings on us.
If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land; Isaiah 1:19
