“So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayer.” Ezra 8:23
Fasting is a Biblical practice that involves giving up something (typically a food) in order to hear from God, receive a breakthrough, receive answer to prayer, or to grow closer to God. I have fasted for all of those reasons, and every single time, God shows up.
One of the fasts that I’ve done that stands out to me is one I did in college. God called me to fast from sweets for a month. Anyone who knows me (in real life) KNOWS how much I love sweets. I knew that it was going to be very challenging. Throughout the fast, God led me to read Psalm 91, a Psalm of protection everyday. God also shared with me that He would show me something beautiful at the end of the fast. Long story short, the last day of the fast came, and my friends and I were in a car accident, hundreds of miles away from home. I was terrified as we traveled over six lanes of traffic during rush hour in Atlanta. All I could do was call on the name of JESUS! And of course, He showed up. We made it out without any injury. In that moment God revealed to me something beautiful… life itself. The life He gave me. The life I’ve chosen to dedicate back to Him.
Fasting is a powerful tool, not just to give us an outcome that we are seeking, but also to allow God the ample space to minister to us. Fasting creates an environment where we can hear from God more clearly. As we prepare for this concert, we would like to invite you to join in with the fast that we are doing as a team. We have been led by God to fast from sugar from September 14 - September 19 (until the end of the concert). If you are led, feel free to join us, so that we can all come with our hearts aligned, ready to hear from The Lord.
Check out this interview I did with Mikaila Clinkscales on the topic of fasting.
